Anna Núñez is an artist + abstract painter based in St. Petersburg, Florida.
B I O :
Anna Núñez (b. 1995) is a mixed-media artist whose abstract paintings explore themes of faith, surrender, and childlike creativity.
She earned her bachelor's degree in studio art with minors in marketing and advertising from Florida Gulf Coast University. After spending six years as a graphic designer, she felt an undeniable pull to pursue painting full-time. In 2022, she made the leap, dedicating herself fully to her artistic practice.
Since then, Anna has participated in group exhibitions, sold work to private collectors worldwide, and partnered with Sugarlift, a NYC-based gallery. In early 2025, she released a collection of prints with Anthropologie.
S T A T E M E N T :
My artwork explores the balance between control and release, mirroring lessons of faith, surrender, and childlike creativity. Through gestural, expressive mark-making contained within the boundaries of a canvas, I embrace both freedom and structure.
Layers of color, varied in intensity and form, create a visual dialogue—some marks feel loose and spontaneous, while others are more deliberately placed, reflecting the delicate balance between surrender and discipline.
My faith influences my creative process, both in spirit and in practice. Many of my paintings reference Bible verses in their titles, and the lessons I encounter in scripture often parallel those I learn in the studio. Painting teaches me to trust, let go, and make space for something greater than myself to take form.
I’m inspired by Cy Twombly’s expressive, unrestrained mark-making, the Alberses’ sensitivity to color and material, and Helen Frankenthaler’s expansive fields of pigment. Their work reminds me that abstraction is a language of its own—one that communicates emotion, movement, and transcendence without the need for representation.
I often think about the legacy of my work and the hands that might hold it in the future—perhaps my grandchildren one day. That thought keeps me rooted in the long view of creativity, knowing that every painting I make is an act of faith, meant to point beyond itself to something greater.
