“Sobremesa” is a Spanish term that refers to the tradition of chatting around the table long after a meal.

These are the moments when bellies are full, stories and laughs are shared, dessert or wine is passed around, and time seems to both stand still and pass by in an instant.

My husband and I love making time for these kinds of moments, often opening our home and dining table to friends and family for long dinners and good conversations.

The unstructured movement and colorful marks in this painting remind me of sobremesa—our lively, unstructured-yet-intentional evenings shared with the people we love dearly.
